Abstract

An article feed control apparatus 10 for controlling the feeding of articles e.g. cans C to a rotating work conveyer 14 having a plurality of spaced work stations each adapted to receive an article, and means 11 for advancing the articles c to a transfer station 17 where they are normally transferred one by one to successive work stations on the work conveyer, comprises an article engaging means 53 (Fig. 8) for movements into and out of the path of the articles for a predetermined period of time to interrupt their advance by the means 11, thereby preventing the transfer of an article c to a work station, and settable means 36 for operating the means 53 when it is desired to prevent the delivery of an article to a work station. As shown the means 53 is a stop which in operative position (Fig. 8) blocks the progress of a can c on a conveyer belt 11 leading to the transfer station. The stop 53 is moved into position by a slide 50 when the end of the latter is engaged by any one of a series of cams 36 provided the latter are positioned in the radially-inner of two alternative positions on a disc 30. The latter is rotated in synchronism with the conveyer by a shaft (33) and sprocket (34) (Fig. 3, not shown). In a modification (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown) a pneumatic transmission is provided between the stop 53 and the cams 36.
