Abstract
1,241,722. Making valved sacks. BRITISH VISQUEEN Ltd. 6 Jan., 1970 [21 Jan., 1969], No. 3327/69. Heading B5D. [Also in Division B8] A sack having a filling valve is formed from a rectangular length of a flattened tubular web of woven polypropylene, polythene or jute by providing a slit 14 in the front wall of the web, folding over an extension portion 12 about a line 17 to cover the slit 14, and forming stitched seams between both layers of the extension 12 and both walls of the web at 19, between both layers of the extension 12 and the front wall of the web at 20 and 21, and along the bottom of the sack at 23. In another embodiment (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) the extension portion (6) extends across the whole width of an open end (4) of the sack. The open end (4) is closed and secured to the front wall of the web by a stitched seam (8) and the inner or both layers of the extension portion (6) stitched to front wall of the web adjacent the slit (2) to form a seam (7). As an alternative to stitching the seams may be formed using adhesive or heat sealing methods. The valve sack may also include gusseted side walls and a gusset bottom.
