124,043. Jaeghere, E. de. March 12, 1918. Limbs, artificial. - Comprises constructions oi wrist-rotating mechanism for arms. The upward movement of the fore-arm 2, Fig. 1, produces an axial movement of the link 4 which is transmitted to a toothed sector 22, Fig. 4, pivoted at 19. The rotation of the sector is transmitted to a pinion 16 through a guided sliding rack-bar 17 having two sets of teeth on adjacent faces. The hand is secured to the screwed end 13 of the shaft 10 which is rotated by the pinion against the action of a spring 24. The link from the sector 22 has a slotted screwed connexion 25 to the link 4, partly for adjustment and partly to render the wrist-rotating mechanism inoperative when desirable, by loosening the screw. The sector may be operated by a tension cord secured to shoulder harness. A hand-pressed friction brake 34 may be used to retard the return movement of the wrist under the influence of the spring 24. Fig. 7 shows a modified construction in which the shalt 10 is rotated by a tension cord attached to a radial arm 40. A spring, connecting the, arm 40 to the casing, resists the movement and restores the shaft. The shaft 10 might be prolonged in some cases and the rotating mechanism fitted at points other than at the wrist. Specification 112,846 is referred to.
