Abstract

567,728. Valve actuators. HOTCHKISS, C. F. July 6, 1943, No. 10976. [Class 135] A valve-actuating device includes a flexible shaft connected at one end to a member for rotating it and at the other to a fitting adapted to be secured to a rotating valve spindle. In the form shown in the Figures, the remote end of the flexible shaft 8 enclosed in a flexible sheath 9 is secured to a shaft 6 secured by a grub-screw 12 in the boss of a hand wheel 11. The shaft 6 is rotatably mounted in a thimble 4 secured by a grub-screw 41 in a stand 2 secured to the deck 1 of a ship or other suitable support. One end of the sheath 9 is secured to the thimble 4 while the other end is connected to a sleeve 13 arranged between a shoulder 17 on a shaft 14 attached to the valve end of the shaft 8 and a second sleeve 20 secured by setscrews 21 to the shaft 14. A hand wheel 26 is secured by a grub-screw 27 to the sleeve 20 which is fixed by a grub-screw 25 to the end 23 of the valve spindle.
