Abstract

1,235,306. Sampling steel. MANNESMANN A. G. Oct.1, 1968 [Oct. 16, 1967], No. 46461/68. Heading C7D. [Also in Division B3] A two-part sampling mould has the mould cavity 4, 5 formed in one part 2, Fig. 2, which is inserted in the other part 1 as in Fig.1. The mould has a handle 3 and may be filled by dipping into a crucible or ingot mould e.g. containing molten steel, or by filling from a sampling ladle. It has a pouring cup 6 with a wooden cover 7 which floats off in the melt and it is of low carbon steel. A frustoconical portion 4 of the cavity provides a test-piece for spectrographic analysis while a sample for gas analysis is stamped out of the tongue formed in the cavity portion 5. The face of the casting produced by the surface 1a of the mould is first ground and thus freed of oxide skin. The reverse side of the tongue is subsequently ground before a flat disc sample is stamped out.
