Abstract

A roll change rig suitable for replacing the rolls of a stand, or for replacing the stand itself, includes a first guide rail 17 which extends from the stand to a turntable 19 or switchable points, and second and third rails which extend from the turntable or points to respective stations. The turntable may have two or three sets of rails 23-25, the old rolls or stand being moved along one rail and the replacement rolls or stand along another rail. The rolls or stand are moved along the respective rails either by piston and cylinder units 15, 33 and 37, by screw devices, or by self-propelled carriages.
