Abstract

1,232,602. A board game. L. G. PIERSON. 15 May, 1969 [17 May, 1968], No. 23557/68. Heading A6H. Apparatus for playing a board game foropposing players includes a board having a playing area divided into zones for the players, the zones being divided into at least two separate paths to be traversed in succession during the playing of the game, and members for use in conjunction with the board comprising; a token for each player for disposition on a zone, cards for use by the opposing players, each card having an inscription thereon, a pair of dice, and a ten-sided prism which are used for throwing in accordance with the rules recited in the specification whereby a zone into which a players token is to be moved is prescribed by a throw of the dice, each zone being inscribed with advice for the continuence of play. As shown the game simulates a three year course at a university, the board being hexagonal. The board has three peripheral tracks 14a, 14b, and 14c, each track representing a year's study and each corner is marked with the name of a university. A playing piece is provided for each of up to six players, together with play money. At the beginning of the game the players choose a university and place their playing pieces of the appropriate corner. They then take it in turns to throw the dice, moving their playing pieces along the outer track 14a. As explained in the specification, depending on the square landed on, a player may aquire or lose money, gain some advantage or information, or be asked a question which, if answered correctly, will result in the acquisition of points. When a player has acquired the requisite fee and number of points he may proceed first to the middle track 14b and ultimately to the innermost track 14c. The various cards are used to provide information about mathematicions (mathematician cards); data, such as the statement of a theorem, (data cards); set numerical problems (problem cards), the numerical values for which are provided by means of a ten sided prism; test the memory of a player by querying the information on the data and mathematician cards (query cards); and indicate aternative procedures (risk cards), as required by the markings in the various squares on the track.
