Abstract
1,231,636. Carding machine feed. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. 10 Sept., 1969 [17 Sept., 1968], No. 44167/68. Heading DIN. [Also in Division H2] A plurality of cards 16-19 are fed from a common fibre hopper 10, and the rate of feed of fibres from the hopper is automatically changed in response to a change in the production rate of one or more of the cards by an amount substantially equal to the change in production of the one or more cards. As shown, the fibres are fed from the hopper 10 by rollers 12 to beater 13 and fed in a recirculating air stream past cards 16-19. Each card has a drive arrangement permitting a slow-speed piecing up condition and a high speed normal operating condition. When the card is switched from slow to fast speed a resistor is shorted out. This causes, via a circuit including an amplifier, oscillator and thyristor power controller, the motor 20 driving rollers 12 to speed up the fibre supply. This speeding up is repeated upon switching the other cards to a fast speed. The motor 20 can be switched to a manual speed control if required.
