Abstract

1,229,613. Dockboard for loading lorry. SERVICE STEEL & ENG. Ltd. 28 May, 1968 [29 May, 1967], No. 25489/68. Heading B8E. A dock-board is formed of a main plate 16 pivoted at 20, and a lip plate 17 pivoted at 21 to the said main plate 16. The plates 16, 17 are counterbalanced by spring 23 not shown. The lip plate 17 is operated by an arm unit comprising hollow member 30 pivoted at 31, inner member 32 sliding within member 31, spring 34 enclosed within member 33 and the connection 35, 37, 39. Two latch members are provided, of which the first latch member is 41 pivoted at 31 and adapted to drop into a slot (not shown) formed in member 30. The second latch member is 48 pivoted at 49 to member 50 secured to member 32, the latch 48 having notch 51. In addition stop member 58 is provided, and is pivoted at 59 and adapted to engage at 61 with fixture 62. Operation.-At rest the dock-board is positioned as in Fig. 4. By means of a hand lever not shown the dock-board is raised by the operator by being pivoted upwards about pivot 20 into the position of Fig. 6. This upwards movement causes extension of the arm unit 30, 32, 33 so that in the upper position shown the first latch member 41 has dropped into the slot of member 30 and positioned itself behind the member 32, so that the arm unit is now in extended position. The dock-board is now rotated by the operator clockwise and downwards about pivot 20, the movement causing relative movement between the arm unit and plate 16 to permit latch 48 to be latched by engaging stop 52 pivoted at 53 to plate 16, whilst unlatching latch member 41. The plates 16, 17 are now in the operating position ready to belowered as shown on to the tail board 64 (Fig. 7) of a lorry. In this way goods may be fed on to or taken off a lorry 64 over the ramp 16, 17. A key member 74 (not shown) is provided whereby the second latch 48 may be released by the operator from the position Fig. 7 so that plates 16, 17 automatically return to their initial position i.e. as shown in Fig. 4. If as shown in Fig. 8, the plates 16, 17 rotate further, i.e. clockwise and downwards, whereby member 58 releases second latch 48, then part of the weight of the plates is taken by stop member 58 engaging with fixture 62 so that the plates 16, 17 are caused to rise and return automatically to the initial position of Fig. 4. In another embodiment, lip plate 17 may slide relative to main plate 16.
