Abstract

1,229,393. Cremation furnaces. WELLMAN INCANDESCENT FURNACE CO. Ltd. 13 Jan., 1970 [16 Jan., 1969], No. 2548/69. Heading F4B. A cremation furnace comprises a pair of cylindrical chambers 10 and 11 interconnected by a duct 12 located adjacent to the charging end of the chamber 10, and a row of tangential burners 32 extending along the chamber 10 such that burner products impinge against a side of a coffin 30 located in the chamber 10 and then swirl about the said coffin. At least one additional burner 35 is provided in the duct 12 to assist in setting up a cyclonic or swirling flow pattern in the chamber 11 and thereby the complete combustion of the waste combustion products.
