Abstract
830,136. Metal-heating furnaces. CASTINGS Ltd. April 17, 1956 [July 25, 1955], No. 21412/55. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). A batch-type annealing furnace comprises an oil or gas burner 7 mounted centrally towards the bottom of the back wall, a refractory tube 10 disposed in the treatment chamber 5 coaxially of and spaced from said burner, and rows of ports 12 in the floor below charge stacks 11 feeding a pair of waste gas flues. Some of the waste gases are re-circulated through the gap between the burner and the tube, the latter serving also to shield the charge from impingement with or radiation from the flame. Each tube 10 may be divided into separate coaxial sections, Fig. 5 (not shown), may be shaped to give a venturi effect, Fig. 4 (not shown), or may comprise coaxial sections of increasing diameter, Fig. 6 (not shown). A modified furnace, Fig. 3 (not shown), has two burners disposed in the end wall close to the side walls, with a central row of waste gas ports serving a single flue in the floor.
