Abstract

1,229,119. Caseless cartridges. G. A. RAUSING. 8 Sept., 1969 [14 Oct., 1968], No. 44263/69. Heading F3A. Caseless cartridge comprises a body of propellant 1, a bullet 2, and an entirely combustible sealing device 3 which covers the rear face of the propellant charge and prevents the occurrence of flash-back upon firing the cartridge. The sealing device is made from nitrocellulose and is designed to burn away completely by a time 0À001 to 0À5 second after ignition of the propellant charge, its sealing action being maintained during the whole of the combustion time of the propellant charge. The propellant charge is ignited with a caseless completely consumable primer 4 which can be made in one piece with the sealing device, or by means of compressed air or an electrical primer which directly actuates the propellant charge. The body 1 of propellant is cylindrical or slightly conical and is constituted by an explosive powder.
