Abstract

1,228,603. Laminated sandwich panel. N. E. LUNDSTAD. 21 June, 1968, No. 29778/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Division E1] A building panel comprises facing panels 3 enclosing an intermediate layer 1 of impregnated cardboard formed to define hollow spaces open at each end and extending across the layer, layers 1 and 3 being bonded by a gypsum plaster layer 2 which penetrates into the hollow spaces for secure bonding. The panels 3 may be gypsum plaster covered with cardboard sheets 4, or of chipboard. The layer 1 may comprise a plurality of corrugated cardboard sheets, which may or may not be bonded together. Bonding may be assisted by the provision of recesses 5 into which the plaster penetrates. An insulating member 7 of corrugated cardboard, glasswool, mineral fibre or wood fibre board may be provided; alternatively insulating rigid foam panels may be attached to the inside surface of one panel 3, with the plaster layer 2 being provided in the joints between the foam panels. Soundproofing material, e.g. sawdust, blast furnace slag, or heat insulating material, e.g. mineral wool, may be provided in the air spaces of layer 1. As shown the facing panels 3 extend beyond the edges of the layer 1, to define a channel around that layer. In assembling several panels to form a wall or door, the channels are filled with gypsum plaster 6 to bond the panels together.
