Abstract
1,226,324. Controlling the feed of articles on conveyers. KORK-N-SEAL Ltd. 24 April, 1968 [23 March, 1967], No. 13770/67. Heading B8A. An article feed control arm 10 is pivotally mounted on a support member 2 under the control of a pre-loaded friction clutch 11 and a one-way clutch 8, 8a in series, a spring 9 biasing the arm 10 in the direction of rotation corresponding to free movement of the one-way clutch 8, 8a. The friction clutch comprises a fibre ring 11 mounted on a spindle 4 between a flange 3 rigid with the support member 2 and a flanged ring 6 rotatably mounted on the spindle 4. The ring 6 is secured to the element 8 of the one-way clutch. The clutch element 8a is rigid with a spindle 4b which carries the arm 10. In controlling the flow of containers 23 from a conveyer 20 to a handling machine 21, 22 the arm 10 remains in a container obstructing position (Fig. 2) until a predetermined number of containers have backed up (as shown at 23). The predetermined number may be adjusted by the setting of a screw 13. This adjusts the loading of a spring 12 which determines the pressure on the brake element 11. If the backed up number diminishes to a single, or erratically spaced containers, the arm 10 swings back into its obstructing position under the action of the spring 9.
