Abstract

1,225,985. Door fastenings. W. H. MINER Inc. 16 Feb., 1968, No. 7691/68. Heading E2A. Door bolting means for use with a door 22 having a vertical closing edge and adapted to be swingable about a vertical axis towards and away from a second member 20, comprises the combination of a vertically extending bar 32, a guide assembly 18 adapted to be secured to the said door so that a portion projects beyond the closing edge of said door in which portion said bar is rotatably mounted, said projecting portion of said guide assembly having an arm element 86 adapted to be engageable with said second member for aligning said door and said second member in a substantially coplanar relationship with each other when said door is swung toward said second member, vertical alignment keeper means 44 adapted to be mounted on said second member, and vertical alignment keeper engaging means 66 mounted on said bar intermediate the ends thereof. In the construction shown the means 66 is a finger element secured by welding to the bar 32 and the keeper means 44 is a generally U-shaped strap, a buffer plate 62 being secured between the strap and the surface of the member 20; upper and lower wall portions 50 and 52 of the strap are inclined so that when the finger element engages the strap it engages one or other of these inclined surfaces if the door is incorrectly aligned with the member 20 and becomes correctly aligned. Each guide assembly 68 consists of a generally U-shaped strap element 70 having a bight portion 72 and a pair of leg portions 74 and 76; a spacer element 78 is interposed between the leg portions and has an arcuate bearing surface 80 which faces the bight portion 72, the bar 32 being engaged between the bight portion and the bearing surface. As shown the member 20 is a second door and the door 22 holds this second door 20 closed; the door 22 is fastened to a door frame 10 by cam bolts 34 at each end of the bar 32 which engage keeper means 36 on the door frame. In an alternative construction however the second member is part of the door frame and in this case the cam bolts 34 and keeper members 36 are omitted; instead there are two finger elements 66 and two keeper means 44. In each construction the bar 32 is rotated by a hand lever 38 which is pivotally connected to it and which is normally retained in a sealing member 42 secured to the door when the door is in closed position.
