122,555. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, Sir G. T. April 8, 1918. Machine guns.- Relates to automatic guns of the recoiling - barrel type having a cartridge carrier or extractor slidably mounted on the lock, and particularly to guns of the Vickers' type, and consists in providing a device which, when operated in the event of a cartridge in the barrel becoming jammed in the cartridget-way of the extractor, farces the extractor into the firing position and enables the faulty cartridge to be fired. Fig. 3 shows a spring-controlled two-armed lever D, D' which can be manually operated from the rear of the gun by a rod E to cause a projection d on the arm D to engage the horn b of the extractor B and force the extractor upwards into its firing position, and over the rim of a cartridge x in the barrel.
