Abstract

1,224,822. Chain saws. DANARM Ltd. 16 Jan., 1970 [10 March, 1969], No. 12576/69. Heading B5L. A portable chain saw has a handle assembly, Fig. 2, comprising a rear handle unit 11 resiliently connected to the rear end of the saw body 10 by means of a coil spring 24, a forward handle 12 connected to the forward part of the body 10 by means of coil springs 17, and a rigid member 13 interconnecting the unit 11 and handle 12 to form a substantially rigid structure. Means are also provided which serve to limit the extent of floating movement of the handle assembly relative to the body 10 and which normally perform no handle supporting function but serve to prevent disconnection of the unit 11 from the saw body 10 in the event of failure or collapse of the coil spring 24. As described, the spring 24 is received in a pocket 19, Fig. 4, of the unit 11, and is attached to the unit 11 and to a lug 20 on the saw body. The lug 20 carries a dowel pin 21 the ends of which are received within enlarged apertures in the walls of the pocket 19, so that relative movement of the pocket 19 and saw body is limited by engagement of the pin 21 with grommets 23 forming the aperture walls. The handle 12 is L-shaped and the unit 11 may include a throttle control connected to the body 10 by a flexible cable. (For Figures see next page)
