Abstract

1,224,975. Chain saws. DANARM Ltd. 28 Nov., 1969 [10 March, 1969], No. 12575/69. Heading B5L. A portable chain saw comprises a saw body 10 and a handle assembly including a rear handle unit 11 aligned with the longitudinal centre line of the body and resiliently connected thereto by means of a pair of coil springs 24 the axes of which are aligned and extend transversely to the longitudinal centre line, a forward handle 12 in the form of a frame which surrounds the forward part of the body 10 with clearance and is connected thereto at spaced points by coil springs 15, and a rigid member 13 interconnecting the unit 11 and handle 12 so as to form a substantially rigid handle structure. As described, the unit 11 is formed from two complementary castings which together form a socket 14 for the member 13, and a cylindrical housing 20. One end of each coil spring 24 is attached to one end wall of the housing and the other ends of the springs are connected to a lug or bracket 22 on the body 10 and entering the housing 20 through a slot 21. The coil springs 15 may have their axes aligned with the axis of the crank-shaft of the drive for the saw chain or one or both of them may have their axes perpendicular thereto. The unit 11 may include a throttle control connected to the body 10 by a flexible cable.
