Abstract

1,224,208. Proximity switches. BURGESS MICRO SWITCH CO. Ltd. June 25, 1969 [July 12, 1968], No.33488/68. Heading G1N. A proximity switch for detection of ferromagnetic or electrically conducting materials has a ferrite cored coil 12, Fig. 1, forming part of an oscillator circuit, the circuit and subsequent detector and amplifier stages being mounted on boards 16 within a common casing 10. External power is supplied via a cable 24 which also carries the output leads for switching the load. The oscillator output is rectified by diode D1, Fig. 1, and through the Darlington pair T2 controls the current in load Z. The ferrite core, which is E-shaped in cross-section, Fig.3 (not shown), has an adjustable slug for fine setting of the switching distance, and the casing 10, which carries lock nuts 26 for mounting, may be screw-threaded to provide a coarse adjustment when mounted. The load Z may comprise any visual and/or audible indicator, or other switching elements. The casing 10 may be epoxy filled for use in liquids or explosive gases.
