Abstract

1,006,095. Electrophonic musical instruments. A. H. MICHEL. Dec. 27, 1961 [Jan. 13, 1961], No. 46239/61. Addition to 974,760. Heading G5J. [Also in Division H3] In a keying circuit for an electrophonic musical instrument, circuits are coupled by transformers connected either in cascade or with their secondary windings in series. The transformer cores are soluble and are controlled by permanent magnets operated by keys. The impedance of an output winding is changed as the coupling between transformer windings changes. The coupling and the impedance being reduced or increased together. In Fig. 3, a signal source Tn is coupled to an output circuit V by transformers K 1 to K n which, as indicated, are controlled by permanent magnets. An additional core Z connected in series with secondary and primary windings of successive transformers may or may not be controlled by a permanent magnet. When transformers K 1 , K n are coupled and the impedance of output circuit V is high, the impedance of Z is reduced by saturation. In Fig. 4, the secondaries of transformers K 1 , K 2 are connected in series, only one of the transformers being controlled. A controlled impedance Z is connected across the secondaries. In the uncoupled condition of the keying device, the impedance of Z is low.
