[Also in Division G4] Apparatus of the Coulter type comprises means for passing the fluid through the aperture 3 first in one direction then in the other. The test fluid is contained in vessels 1, 2 separated by the aperture 3. A liquid such as paraffin which will not mix with the test fluid provides a connection through a pipe 4 and cylinder 5 to a piston 6 which is reciprocated by a motor 19. Resistive changes between electrodes 11, 12 are counted at 18 only when contacts 17 are closed during the midportion of the upward or downward movement of the piston. The number piston cycles, representing the volume of test fluid passed through the aperture, is registered at 20. The electrode 12 is flat or ball shaped (Fig. 2) to inhibit breaking the surface between the two fluids.
