Abstract
1,214,836. Axial-flow fans and blowers. BRITISH DOMESTIC APPLIANCES Ltd. July 25, 1968 [Aug. 16, 1967], No.37659/67. Heading F1C. [Also in Division F4] A fan or blower, e.g. for a domestic heating unit, comprises one or more impellers 5, 6, Fig. 2 arranged at each end of an open-ended duct 9 to draw in air through the ends 12, 13 of the duct and discharge it through a longitudinal opening 20, Fig. 4, in the side wall of the duct. The cross-sectional area of the duct reduces from a maximum at the ends to a minimum at the middle section of the duct. The middle section may be formed by a cylinder 15. The duct comprises two frusto-conical sections 18, 19 the axes of which interest at the middle of the duct and make a large obtuse angle, e.g. 170 degrees, with each other in a horizontal plane. The wall of the duct may instead be curved in longitudinal section. The impellers are connected to drive shaft 4 via plastics sleeves 7, 8 press-fitted on to the shaft. The blades of the impellers may each comprise a leading half which is flat and inclined at 50 degrees to the medial plane of the impeller normal to its axis, and a trailing half which is curved, Fig. 6 (not shown).
