Abstract

1,213,198. Opening cans. AMERICAN CAN CO. 15 March, 1968 [17 March, 1967], No. 12663/68. Heading B8D. A metal can has an end closure with a central panel 12 surrounded adjacent to its periphery by a single endless score 14 and by a stepped countersink wall 40 formed with a shoulder 44, a pull tab 15 being secured adjacent the score. The countersink wall shoulder 44 is at the same or at a higher level than the top of the main body of the pull tab 15. Scanning of the end closure to a can body (51), Fig. 3 (not shown), by a centrally recessed chuck (60) is thus effected without fouling the pull tab 15.
