A crown cork has a lifting tab 24 with central rib 27 and auxiliary ribs 34, the rib 27 having a breadth substantially equal to the distance between two of the ridges 20, at its base, the ribs 34 being extensions of such ridges 20. Fillets of metal 35 connect ribs 34 with adjacent ribs 201.
