Abstract

1,213,010. Moulding doors; polyvinyl chloride laminate. WEN-PLAST A.B. 19 Dec., 1967 [18 Jan., 1967], No. 57721/67. Headings B5A and B5N. [Also in Division E1] A door comprising a core of cellular polyvinyl chloride encased within a fibre reinforced plastics coating, is moulded by successively applying to each of two waxed and polished stainless sheet steel mould halves; an initial gel coat of unsaturated polyester containing thixotropic agent, colour pigments, and methyl-ethylketone peroxide and cobalt naphthenate hardener, which is allowed to set providing a tacky surface; plastics material comprising 60% unsaturated polyester, and 40% unsaturated polyester with added accelerator and curable by benzoyl peroxide; a first glass fibre matt which is allowed to absorb the resin; a second glass fibre matt formed with styrene soluble binder which also absorbs the plastics material; a third glass fibre matt bound with a non- styrene-soluble binder. A hard cellular polyvinyl chloride core, which may have aluminium reinforcement and hinges and fittings, is then placed in one mould half and the mould halves are then pressed together in a press whereby pressure is increased to slowly impregnate the third glass fibre matt layer with the plastics.
