Abstract

1,210,851. Reclosable containers. AMERICAN CAN CO. 16 July, 1968 [17 July, 1967], No. 33767/68. Heading B8D. A container includes a container body, a ring 13 joined to one end of the container body by a seam 14 with a raised throat 16 at an inner portion of the ring providing a cylindrical friction wall 20, and a plug 30 which has an annular wall 34 adapted to fit snugly within the friction wall of the ring and a plurality of lugs 42 projecting outwardly from the plug and overlying the top of the seam when the plug is seated on the ring to protect the ring from excessive distortion when an axial force is exerted on the plug. In the event of the plug being pressed downwardly beyond the position shown, the lugs will abut the top of the seam to prevent the excessive distortion.
