Abstract

1,136,030. Stoppers. K. HAYASHIDA. 25 May, 1966 [23 Oct., 1965], No. 23249/66. Heading B8T. A bottle stopper of plastics includes a plug having an upper relatively thick cylindrical section 2 and a lower relatively thin outwardlyflared section 3, the arrangement being such that as the stopper is forced into the neck of a bottle, the outwardly-flared section (3<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 6 (not shown), is turned back upon itself so that its lower face engages the inside of the bottle neck. The lower outwardly-flared plug 3, Fig. 3, has as shown annular ridges 4 around its neck-engaging face. The stopper illustrated is tamper-proof, having an extended skirt 5 provided with a notch 11 at its lower edge and lines of weakness 15, (10<SP>1</SP>), (10<SP>11</SP>), Fig. 1 (not shown). The notch 11 &c., Fig. 3, allows the skirt 5 to be torn off, thus permitting initial drawing of the stopper. The top 1 and plug 2, 3 of the stopper can then be re-used, tearing off the skirt 5 leaving a finger-tab (14), Figs. 1, 7 (not shown), to facilitate its subsequent drawing. In one modification, which is not tamperproof, the extended skirt is omitted, the stopper having a short beaded skirt (18), Figs. 8, 9 (not shown). In another modification, the top (1), Figs. 10, 11 (not shown), is flat, no skirt at all being provided. In a variation of this latter modification, the lower surface of the flat stopper top has annular ridges (19), Fig. 12 (not shown), to engage the top of the bottle neck, and the inside of the cylindrical section of the plug (2) has axial ridges (21).
