Abstract

[Also in Divisions B3 and F2] A quick release bolt assembly 24 comprises an elongate tubular body 30, an abutment member 32 movably carried by one end portion of the body and being shiftable relative to the body in a plane perpendicular to the body axis between a laterally protruding, operative position and a non-protruding, inoperative position by a manually movable shaft 48, external screw threads 54 on the body and a nut 58 carried by the screw threads 54. In use, the abutment member 32 is engaged with one of the two panels (20, 22) (Fig. 1, not shown) through which the body 30 extends, the nut being tightened along the screw threads 54 to clamp the panels (20, 22) together. Release of the 'bolt assembly is effected by slightly unscrewing the nut 58, manually pressing the shaft 48 against the bias of a spring 50 whereby the abutment member 32 is caused to retract into the body 30 then withdrawing the bolt assembly in the direction of the nut 58 from the panels (20, 22). The nut may have an annular groove 60 or a shoulder (100) (Fig. 14, not shown) and the tubular body 30 may be of D-shape cross section so that the body 30 can be prevented from rotation relative to the panels (20, 22) by a key-plate 62 fixed to one of the panels and having a D-shaped aperture accommodating the body 30. The bolt assembly 24 may be engaged by a star washer (86) (Figs. 10 and 12, not shown) having a D-shaped hole (88), the washer being held by a gasket (94) in abutment with a facing (92) on a panel (84) having a sealing bushing (90) through which the bolt assembly passes to provide a water-tight connection. A domed housing (96) may be provided to enclose the end of the bolt assembly adjacent the star washer.
