Abstract

1,208,642. Protective arrangements. KRONPRINZ A.G. 19 Aug., 1968 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 39555/68. Heading H2K. In an overhead power transmission system having high voltage lines 5 carried by respective insulators 4 mounted on pylons 1, two induction coils 9, 10 are mounted on each pylon so as to be in the path of earth leakage current, e.g. resulting from a flash-over, and an indicator 12 is connected to the two coils. The pylons are interconnected by an earth conductor 6 and the induction coils 9, 10 are provided both below and above the cross arms 2, 3. These coils are mounted on iron rings 7, 8 surrounding the pylon or one leg of the pylon and are connected in series or in parallel with each other. The polarities of the voltages induced in the coils is such that when earth leakage currents J 1 , J 2 flow in opposite directions through the coils to the ground and the conductor 6, the indicator is operated by the sum of the voltages. If the fault is on an adjacent pylon then any earth leakage currents would flow from the earth conductor 6 to earth in the same direction through the coils and the voltages induced in the coils 9, 10 would cancel out. Each indicator 12 may have a flag which is released on the energization of an electromagnet or on the ignition of an explosive charge, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
