Abstract

1,205,051. Coated particles. RANK XEROX Ltd. 2 Aug., 1967 [10 Aug., 1966], No. 35515/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C3, G2 and H1] Xerographic carrier particles comprise a core coated with an addition polymer of (a) at least one unsaturated silicon-free compound and (b) at least one silane, silanol or siloxane having attached to a Si atom 1 to 3 hydrolysable groups and an organic group which contains an unsaturated carbon-carbon linkage. The polymers have an average M.Wt. of at least 5,000 and a second order glass transition temperature of at least 55‹C. The cores may be of NaCl, NH 4 Cl, AlKCl 4 , Rochelle salt, NaNO 3 , KClO 4 , Zr, Si, methyl methacrylate, glass, SiO 2 , flintshot, Fe, steel, ferrite, Ni and/or SiC. The polymer may be a copolymer of (a) vinyl chloride or styrene optionally admixed with vinyl acetate or a methacrylate, or acrylonitrile, and (b) vinyl triethoxysilane or (methacryloxypropyl) trimethoxysilane, although other suitable monomers are listed. Comparative examples using coating of a polycarbonate, vinyl chloride/ vinyl acetate copolymer of a copolymer of styrene and a butyl or methyl methacrylate are also given.
