Abstract

1,203,528. Ship's derricks. KAY SEVEN CO. Ltd. 6 May., 1969 [9 Aug., 1968], No. 22943/69. Heading B8B. A marine derrick system comprises a derrick post 7 erected on deck D at a point deviated athwartships from the longitudinal centre line X-X and having a top end portion 8 bent inwardly so as to have its tip above the line X-X. A derrick boom 3 is pivotally mounted by means of a goose-neck 2 on a housing 30 and has a length greater than the height of the post 7. A pair of lugs 5, 5<SP>1</SP> are secured on a swivel ring 6 and respectively carry guy pendant sheaves 15, 17. The arrangement permits the use of the system with the boom 3 either forwardly of the post 7 as shown in full lines at I or aftwards as shown ghosted at II. The transition is effected by bringing the boom 3 nearly vertical and rotating the gooseneck 2 either manually or mechanically.
