Abstract

1,201,263. Steam irons and the like. A. IVES. 11 Oct., 1967 [13 Oct., 1967], No. 45804/66. Heading D1A. [Also in Division H5] A water boiler 2, for producing steam for a steam iron or the like, comprises a pair of immersion heaters 3, (4) (Fig. 1, not shown) controlled by a manual switch 5 and by a magnetic reed contact device 23 which is operated by a permanent magnet on a float 12 to set off a buzzer or the like at a predetermined low water level. In operation, switch 5 is set to energize both heaters 3, 4 until the water boils when a thermostat 6 cuts off heater 4. If the boiler boils dry the supply plugs are expelled from the thermally tripped heater sockets. In the boiler full position the float actuates a second reed contact unit 22 to light a lamp. Steam from the boiler is supplied to the iron or the like by flexible hose.
