Abstract

1,199,391. Cleaning tanks. DASIC EQUIPMENT Ltd. 8 Jan., 1969 [9 Jan., 1968], No. 1264/68. Heading A4F. [Also in Division B2] A tank washing apparatus comprises a head assembly 1 rotatable about a first axis, e.g. that of a shaft 8 secured to an inlet fitting for washing liquid carried by a liquid supply pipe (not shown) extending vertically into the tank to be cleaned, a passage 16 in the assembly 1 for transferring washing liquid to a discharge head 2 rotatable about a secured axis at an angle to said first axis, from which passage 16 extends a conduit 58 for feeding liquid to and actuating a device, e.g. a Pelton wheel 53, mounted on the assembly 1 externally of the passage 16, and transmission means through which said device rotates the assembly 1 and the head 2 simultaneously, said transmission means effecting intermittent accelerations or decelerations of the rotational speed of the head 2 relative to the assembly 1. The Pelton wheel 53 devices via gears 50, 49, 47 and 46 a worn keyed to a shaft 45 and engaging a worn wheel 29 secured by a pin 30 to the shaft 8. The head assembly 1 is thus caused to rotate about the shaft 8. Rotatably mounted in a quadrant plate 32 keyed to the worn wheel 29 is a spindle 37 carrying pinions 38, 39 meshing with pinions 33, 40, respectively. The pinion 33 is rotatable on the shaft 8 and is integral with a bevel pinion 35 meshing with a crown wheel 23 fixed to the discharge head 2. The pinions 38, 39 are normally prevented from turning by a spring pressed friction pad 32a (Fig. 3 not shown) so that the pinion 35 is held stationary whereby the crown wheel 23 and the discharge head 2 rotates as the head 1 turns about the shaft 8, but when a pin 74 carried by the housing 1 strikes a lobe of a star wheel 42 integral with the pinion 40, the gear train 40, 39, 38, 33, 35, and 23 is rotated to impart a momentary acceleration to the discharge head 2. The paths of impingement on the tank walls of the jets discnarged from the head 2 are thus varied. Alternatively liquid is conducted to a jet 57 (Fig. 5, not shown) for operating the Pelton wheel through an apertured annular wall at the inlet to the discharge head, and through a conduit passing through the head 1. In a further construction the Pelton Wheel 181 (Fig. 6, not shown) rotates about a vertical axis in a chamber at the base of the apparatus.
