Abstract

1,198,154. Water-proofing; softening. SHOWA DENKO K.K. and TOKAI SEIYU INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 5 June, 1968 [5 June, 1967; 23 Feb., 1968], No. 26739/68. Heading D1P. [Also in Division C2] Textile material is treated with a composition consisting of a dispersion in a liquid of 0.1-3% of a diamide derived from m- or .pxylene diamine and a C 8-22 carboxylic acid. The acid may be stearic, palmitic, or tallow fatty acid. The dispersing liquid may be a C 1-4 alcohol, acetic acid ester, benzene, toluene, cyclohexane, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, dioxane, or water containing a hydrophilic organic solvent or surface active agent. The textile material may be of cotton, wool, rayon, acetate, polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, or polyvinyl alcohol. It may be dipped in, or brushed or sprayed with, the composition and then heat-treated at 1130-150‹C. for 3-4 min.
