Abstract

1,194,463. H.V.D.C. power transmission. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 28 June, 1968, No. 30835/68. Heading H2F. In a H.V.D.C. transmission system, the rectifying station 1 employs uncontrolled rectifiers and has an automatic voltage regulator on the A.C. side so as to feed a constant voltage to the D.C. transmission line 3 whilst the inverting station 2 uses controlled rectifiers to give automatic control of current or power. As described, the rectifying station 1 may use series-parallel arrangements of semi-conductor diodes 12, supplied from an alternator 14 via a transformer 11. Automatic regulation of the D.C. on line 3 is achieved by a device 16 which controls the field of the alternator 14 and/or the tappings on transformer 11. The current at the receiving end 2 is monitored by a transductor 26 and compared with a reference 28 so as to adjust the delay angle of the mercury arc or thyristor rectifiers and thus to control the current or power in line 3. A further transductor 41 operates a relay 4 so as to short circuit one or more banks of rectifiers 12 and open contacts 43 in the event of excess current. A telecommunications link may be provided between stations 1 and 2 so that a current limit can be imposed in station 2 following rapid load variations that the rectifying station cannot follow.
