1443065 Rectifying COMMUNICATIONS CONSULTANTS Ltd 19 July 1974 [19 July 1973] 34516/73 Heading H2F A power supply for converting A.C. input into a stabilised D.C. output comprises a transformer having at least one tapped secondary winding, the tap feeding output terminals 41, 42 via a first rectifier 21, the higher voltage end of the winding being fed via at least one thyristor 23 to the output circuit. A control circuit, responsive to the output voltage or current maintains constant output. As described, the thyristors 23, 24 may be phase controlled or may be switched on for integral numbers of half cycles. Further rectifiers may be connected to further taps so as to permit change in output voltage in smaller steps. A diode bridge and a thyristor bridge may also be used.
