A lever action bolt mechanism comprises a generally L-section plate having a longer limb 10 and a shorter limb 9, a bolt 12 extending generally parallel to the longer limb and having an end portion 15 guided through the shorter limb for movement between retracted and projected extreme positions, a toggle lever 19 pivotally mounted in the longer limb and actuable to provide said movement of the bolt, the lever lying generally flush with the longer limb in both extreme positions of the bolt, a projection 20 fixed on the bolt and extending generally parallel to the bolt between the latter and the longer limb of the plate, and a blade spring 13 also positioned between the bolt and said longer limb, the spring being secured to the latter and acting on the projection so as alternately to urge the bolt to the extreme positions.
