Abstract

1,192,975. Crease-proofing cellulosic textiles. CHEMISCHE FABRIK PFERSEE G.m.b.H. 28 July, 1967 [30 July, 1966; 24 Dec., 1966], No. 34842/67. Heading D1P. [Also in Division C3] A composition conferring crease-resistance on cellulosic textiles contains (a) 25-60 wt. % of a water-soluble methylol urea or cyclic alkylene urea, (b) 25-65 wt. % water, (c) 10-35 wt. % of an emulsifier which is soluble in a hydrocarbon or chlorinated hydrocarbon and has an HLB number (see below) of 3-13, and (d) 0-35 wt. % of a hydrocarbon or chlorinated hydrocarbon. A material of HLB number below 9 is predominantly lipophilic; one of HLB number above 11 is predominantly hydrophilic; corresponding water-solubilities range from non- water-dispersible at HLB number 1-4 to entirely soluble at 13<SP>+</SP>. The methylol compound (a) may be etherified with a Cl-5 saturated monohydric alcohol and may contain 10-20 wt. % of a methylol melamine. An acidic catalyst (c) may also be present, e.g. in amount 6-25 wt. % of the methylol compound. In Examples the materials used are:-(a) dimethylol piropylene urea; dimethylol dihydroxyethylene urea; 1:1 mono-/dimethylol ethylene urea; dimethylol urea; monomethyl dimethylol urea; dimetbylol urea containing 10% of fully methylated pentamethylol melamine; (b) water; (c) ethoxylated: - oileic acid monoethanolamide (7 ethyleneoxy residues); octadecylamine (7 residues); coconut fatty acid propanolamide 4 residues); stearic acid monoethylamide (7 residues); stearic itriethanolamine ester (2 residues); 1:1 cetyl alcohol/stearyl alcohol mixture (5 residues); the formate of the amide from coconut fatty acid and diethylene triamine mixed with the acetate of the corresponding stearic amide, sodium dodecylbenzemesulphonate; sodium lorol sulphate/lorol polyglycol ether (7 ethoxy residues) mixture; (d) tetrachlorethylene; trichlorethylene; toluene; benzine; (e) ZnCl 2 ; NH 4 NO 3 ; NH 4 Cl; Mg(NO 3 ) 2 ; ethanolamine hydrochloride; 2- amino-2-methyl-propanol hydrochloride. The solutions are used to treat cotton poplin or satin and a 50/50 viscose/polyester cambric.
