Abstract

1,192,624. Forging. SUMITOMO METAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 June, 1967, No. 26129/67. Heading B3H. A forging die such as 7, 8 is clamped into the press by fluid-actuated wedge means 14. The press has a top platen 1 guided relatively to the bottom bolster 2 by three guide posts 3. The dies 7, 8 are secured by wedges 14 disengageably connected to rods 18 movable in inclined slots 17 of blocks 10 actuated in opposite directions by pistons 22 supplied through pipes 9 with pressure oil. The press may have three sets of dies such as bending, blocking and finishing dies. These are clamped together by a lever 24 carrying adjustable shoes 31 engaging the adjacent die 8. Lever 24 is pivoted at 29 to a triangular plate 23 movable about a pivot 25. Anticlockwise movement of plate 23 about pivot 25 by means of oil pressure piston 35 produces clamping of the dies. Release of the dies is effected by clockwise movement of plate 23 by piston 34.
