Abstract

1,191,983. Ethylene oxide. SOC. ITALIANA RESINE S.p.A. 25 Feb., 1969 [11 April, 1968], No. 10118/69. Heading C2C. Ethylene oxide is prepared by the catalytic oxidation of ethylene in the vapour phase at a pressure of 1-30 atm. and elevated temperature with oxygen by passing pure ethylene and oxygen separately or premixed without gaseous diluents into a reactor containing an oxidation catalyst, the ethylene constituting more than 86% by volume of the gases entering the reactor. The preferred catalyst is silver deposited on an inert support.
