An arrangement for locating sheets in a copying machine comprises a table supporting an original sheet, a table supporting a stack of copy sheets, an adjustable member engaging one side of the stack, and an index member mounted on the original sheet table and coupled for movement with the adjustable member either to provide an indication of the copy sheet size, or to assist in aligning the original relative to a copy sheet. Fig. 1 illustrates a machine in which an original sheet is fed from table 1 by rollers 3, 4 to an actuator 7 for a roller 8 separating copy sheets from a stack supported on table 11. Rollers 13, 14 are initially spaced apart, and the original and copy sheet are aligned at their leading edges by movable stop 15; the rollars 13, 14 then move together, and feed the sheets to exposure station 16. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the adjustable and index members are each formed by upright plates 9, 25 engaging an edge of the stack and a corresponding edge of the original, respectively, and are coupled for movement together by a wire and pulley arrangement 31-34, acting on rods 24, 26 integral with the plates and sliding in lateral slots in the tables 1, 11. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the plate (25) is replaced by a slide (103) provided with an indicator scale (105) so that by aligning the side edge of an original on table 1 with the datum of the scale, it will be aligned with the copy sheets. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the wire and pulley arrangement is replaced by pistons and cylinders. Delivering sheets.-After exposure at station 16, Fig. 1, copy sheet and original are separated automatically at 17, the copy sheet is developed at 18, and the original is either removed at outlet 21, or is recirculated for further copies by gate 22.
