Abstract

1,188,518. Centrifugal pumps. GAINSBOROUGH PRECISION ENG. (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. May 19, 1967 [July 20, 1966], No.32554/66. Heading F1C. A circulating pump, e.g. of the centrifugal type shown for central heating systems, comprises a housing 22, Fig.1, having a manual valve 33, 35, 38 which in the closed position shown isolates the pumping chamber 29 from the main flow passage to thereby permit detachment of the unit comprising the electric driving motor 11, 12 the pump impeller 18 and casing parts 10, 16. In the open position of the valve, communication is established between the main flow passage and the inlet and outlet sides of the impeller. The valve may be used to regulate flow through the impeller. Rotation of the valve head 35 during adjustment of the valve is prevented by a co-operating spigot and slot arrangement 40, 39. The valve stem 33 may be in one piece as shown, or in two relatively-rotatable pieces (63, 64, Fig. 2 not shown).
