Abstract
1,186,129. Liquid ring pumps. I.C. JENNINGS. Sept. 30, 1968 [March 7, 1968], No.46322/68. Heading F1C. A multi-stage liquid ring vacuum pump comprises a separating member between two successive stages, cold seal liquid being introduced from an entry means to a conduit in the casing and thence into a groove in the separating member adjacent the inner edges of the impellers. In the two-stage liquid ring vacuum pump shown in Fig.1, cold water is introduced from a pipe 32 via a conduit in cone structure 36 to an annular sealing groove 34 in a rotor partition wall 26 separating the two stages 18, 22. The cold sealing water spreads out over the interior surfaces of the water rings and its cooling effect reduces the tendency towards flashing of water into vapour and the consequent reduction of vacuum. At vacua below the value at which the second stage 22 becomes effective, the discharge from the first stage 18 passes directly to the outlet pipe 42 via a non-return valve (not shown) by-passing the second stage. A revolving ring of water set up by the pump rotor is deflected inwardly by a stationary scoop blade 46 to cool a mechanical seal 14.
