Abstract

To facilitate the simultaneous insertion of a number of pins 17, Fig. 1, connected to wires of an equipment to be installed into sockets 14 embedded in a connector block 11 of a permanent installation, the pins are releasably held in a supporting device 16 comprising two comblike sections 161, 162 which is removed once the pins have been inserted into the sockets. The pins 17 have projections 171 for co-operation with grooves in section 162 to ensure that the pins are retained in the device 16. The pins and sockets may be rectangular and, alternatively, the pins may be in the block 11 and the sockets in the device 16. The sockets have pin portions 142 or completely tubular sockets may be used, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown). Springy tongue-like portions are provided in the walls of the sockets to ensure good contact with the pins. In Fig. 9 tongues 143 in the wall of a socket lock into depressions 172 formed in the pin 17. Disengagement between the pin and the socket may be effected by inserting a thin strip of material between the face of the pin bearing the depressions 172 and the wall of the socket comprising the tongues 143. The sockets and pins are preferably of brass or phosphor bronze and coated with gold, silver, cadmium or iridium. An array of similar assemblies may be used in an equipment rack.
