Abstract
1,185,211. Automatic circuit breakers. AIRPAX ELECTRONICS Inc. 21 April, 1967 [26 April, 1966], No.18533/67. Heading H1N. A moulded case circuit breaker has a handle 21 pivoted in the case and a contact lever 14 pivotally and slidably mounted therein, a pair of toggle links 27, 28 pivoted respectively to the handle and the contact arm at 25, 30 and to each other at 29; a pin 45 is mounted on one link 28 and a forked lever 44 is pivoted to the other at 25; a catch 33, releasable by an electromagnet 48 has a half shaft 31 (Fig. 8) normally retaining the forked lever in engagement with the pin 45 and therefore the toggle links in a straightened position. The electromagnet 48 has a counterbalanced armature 56 with a hammer portion 55 arranged, upon overload, to strike an arm 33 of the catch causing the pin to be released by the forked lever and the toggle linkage to collapse under the action of a spring 15 moving the contacts to open position. A spring 23 resets the linkage. The mechanism is assembled in a frame supported between two halves of the moulded case by the pivot pins 15, 22 extending into recesses.
