Abstract

1,182,965. Road and like rollers; controlling vehicles. H. PATTISON & CO. Ltd. 5 Sept., 1968 [7 Sept., 1967], No. 40906/67. Heading B7H. A motor roller for rolling turf comprises front and rear rolls 10, 11, a front sub-frame 13, 15 steerable about a vertical axis relative to a main frame 23, 25, a seat 32 mounted on the main frame above end of the rear roll 11, and a substantially horizontal steering shaft 20 connected by a worm 19 and nut 18 to a steering arm 17 projecting laterally from the front sub-frame. The steering shaft 20 is journalled in a self-aligning bearing 21 on the main frame and carries a steering wheel 34. The seat 32 is swingable about a vertical pivot 35 to obtain better rearward visibility when driving in reverse upon releasing a spring. loaded detent 36 engaging notches 37 in a sector plate 38. The seat 32 may have an integral footrest structure carrying brake and clutch pedals. The rear roll 11 is driven from an engine 27 through reversing gear 28, a chain or belt drive 30, change-speed gear 29 and a chain drive 31. The rolls 10, 11 are sealed for carrying water ballast. .
