Abstract

1,180,800. Repairing furnace tapholes. HOESCH A.G. 11 Sept., 1967 [17 Oct., 1966], No.41423/67. Heading F4B. Apparatus for repairing the taphole 12 of a Siemens-Martin furnace comprises a bed-plate 1 slung from a crane hook 3 and carrying a feed chamber 8 with hopper 9, said chamber enclosing a feed-screw 7 for filling material attached by a pin 11 to a liner tube 10, the latter being rotated with the feed-screw 7 by a motor 4 with transmission 5. The tube is a loose fit in the feed-screw so that on rotation it receives a radial motion compressing the filling material. After filling the taphole, the motor 4 is stopped, the pin 11 removed and the apparatus withdrawn, leaving the tube held by the filling material as it solidifies.
