Abstract

1,139,089. Repairing ladle linings. BADISCHE MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. 30 March, 1966 [30 March, 1965], No. 14187/66. Heading F4B. [Also in Division B3] In a method of lining axially symmetrical vessels such as foundry ladles, granular material such as sand is projected into the ladle by a sand slinger, the head 8 of which is angularly movable about a horizontal axis and rotatable about a vertical axis, whereby a jet of sand from the slinger head is directed into a gap between a former 3 and the inner periphery of the ladle 1 in the form of a helix thereby building up a lining within the ladle, the diameter about which the slinger head rotates being adjustable so that the thickness of the lining can be varied by depositing consecutive layers and variations in the diameter of the ladle or vessel can be accommodated. The sand slinger 4 comprises a support column 5 with a cantilever arm 6 from which is suspended by a carrier 7 a slinger arm with a centrifugal slinger head 8. The arm 6 is slidable on rollers 9, 10 to permit variation in the operative length of the arm and the slinger head is adjustable about the vertical axis of rotation of the carrier 7 by means 23 to vary the diameter about which the head rotates. The angular movement of the slinger arm and head 8 about the horizontal axis through trunnions 18 on the carrier 7 is effected by means 19, drive motor 13 effecting the rotation of the slinger arm and head about the vertical axis and motor 21 driving the slinger head. The lining material is fed to the slinger head from hopper 24 via conveyer belts 25 and 27 on the cantilever arm and slinger arm respectively to the wheel 20 of the slinger head.
