Abstract

1,176,874. Toy vehicle with removable wheels. METTOY CO. Ltd. 14 Feb., 1968 [22 March, 1967], No. 13380/67. Heading A6S. A toy vehicle has (1) a pair of rotatable ground wheels 7, each being mounted on an axle 3 and each having on its inner face an axial extension 8 formed externally with a circumferential groove on said extension, (2) a pair of detents 9, one for each road wheel, mounted on the body and each normally engaging in the groove to retain the wheel on the axle and (3) means 12, for disengaging any one of the detents from the respective groove to permit removal of the wheel from the axle. The axles may be mounted so as to allow vertical movement of same relative to the body, and the means for moving the detent may be a cam 11 mounted on the axle, which cam has an operating lever 12 which is normally horizontal but may be moved into a vertical position to cause the cam to lift the detent and cause the lever to act as a jack. The detents may be part of a spring which opposes the upward movement of the axle. The axle may have a central enlargement formed integrally or as a sleeve. In a modification the cam is shaped so that the axle is normally held clear of the chassis plate, but on moving the cam the axle is lowered allowing the wheel to clear any wheel arches.
