Abstract

1,175,059. Polyolefin compositions. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. 20 June, 1967 [28 July, 1966], No. 33898/66. Heading C3P. Compositions for sheathing electrical cables comprise a polyolefin having a melt index of less than 1, a slip agent and optionally carbon black and an antioxidant. The polyolefin may be a polymer or copolymer of ethylene, propylene or butylene, optionally with minor proportions of acrylonitrile, ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride or vinyl acetate, preferably polyethyene or an ethylene/propylene copolymer. The slip agent may be a fatty acid amide, e.g. caprylamide, capramide, lauramide, myristamide, palmitamide, stearamide, oleamide, linoleamide and erucamide; or a wax. The carbon black may be a channel or furnace black. The anti-oxidant may be 4,4<SP>1</SP>-thiobis- (6-t.-butyl-m-cresol).
